Budget & Contact

Wow...it's been soooo long since I've written, but I promise I've been working...I didn't know college and scholarship stuff would be so time consuming. About my project...I e-mailed our Representative Bill Herbkersman about my project and asked him to work to declare a "Seniors Sign to Vote!" Day...he thought it was a great idea...which is great...I hope this idea will spread all over the state...so what I'm working on now is trying to hold a Seniors Sign to Vote Day at my school...but we will devote an entire week to voter awareness...each eligible senior will register to vote and get a t-shirt commemorating their achievement (it also doubles as an incentive)...yay! I will try to keep this a bit more up-to-date than I have.

Importance of Project

This project is vital to the success of our community because, as the saying goes, "we are the future." It is up to our age group, right now, to become involved in our community and government. We need to learn all we can so we can be prepared to make the important decisions that lie ahead. We need to stay involved so we can change what needs to be improved. As a generation, we need to realize that we CAN and WILL make a difference; it is up to us whether it will be positive or negative. Many students believe that voting, writing letters to the editor, picketing, and debating are actions that are only effective if done by "adults." Well guess what: we ARE adults. How can we let the opportunity to create our own world just pass us by? As students and young adults, we see the world in a different way. We witness actions and comments that many others believe do not occur anymore. It is time for us to step up and get involved. After talking to the League of Women Voters and researching the statistics on the internet, I realized just how poor our governmental involvement is. Our town poll shows that only a very small percentage of elligible voters (ages 18-20) voted in the last election. This project is designed to change that, or to at the very least create awarness about the lack of involvement by young people. I KNOW we can do this. Let's prove our elders wrong and show them that teenagers DO care and are NOT afraid to fight!

Mission Statement

This project's mission is to increase political awareness and activism in young adults.
